AIA CEU Qualified Polyurea Coatings Presentation
SAN ANTONIO, TX – The SSPC’s annual meeting is the coating industry’s only industrial, marine, protective, and commercial coatings conference and exhibit. It will be held at the Henry Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas on January 14-17, 2013 and caters to over 2,000 coatings industry professionals and facility owners.
VersaFlex will be in booth 508 — stop by and see us!
Polyurea coating technology has gained vast acceptance among the protective coatings industry for applications ranging from abrasion resistance, corrosion protection, secondary and primary waterproofing containment and chemical resistance over steel, concrete and many other substrates.
Track 2 which will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 is titled Concrete Protection Solutions. It is moderated by Dudley J. Primeaux II – PCS, CCI and covers four exciting technical presentations highlighting polyurea coating technology and new products.
AIA Members can gain Learning Units (LU’s) from attending the polyurea sessions by simply registering at the table outside the room and including your AIA Member Number.
List of Polyurea Technical Papers:
- “Old Coat – New Threads” – by Dudley Primeaux PCS – VersaFlex Incorporated, Todd Gomez PC – VersaFlex Incorporated, John Winfrey – VersaFlex Incorporated
Gel coatings have traditionally been used in environments where color, gloss and relative long-term performance were important. This premise is still true today; however, a much more advanced technology has been developed that provides improved characteristics of color, gloss, thermal cycling and longer-term performance. Additionally, the aspects of being 100% solids and low VOC’s further enhance the aspects of this new technology.
- “Polyurea ‘Loose’ Liners: A Bandaid for Excessively Cracked Concrete” – by Kristin Leonard – Bechtel Corp.
Ever had to coat a concrete containment area that was so severely cracked it would take months to properly repair? Add in speed bumps such as lack of a vapor barrier and fully installed equipment and you have one major headache! Solution: A polyurea “loose” liner.
- “Preparing and Lining Concrete for Immersion Service Steps and Procedures to Avoid Failures” – by Robert Maley – Corrosion Probe, Inc.
The practice of lining concrete substrates has increased exponentially over the past thirty (30) years, most notably in the wastewater treatment industry. Environmental regulations, coupled with changes to treatment processes, have combined to generate harsh exposures in which concrete / historically successful linings will corrode or fail.
- “Looking Down at Concrete Floor Protection- The Pro’s and Cons of Polyaspartic Floor Coatings” – by Michael McKeever – Carboline
Polyaspartics are the newest and most exciting technology to hit the resinous floor market within the last ten years. These coatings have the fast drying characteristics similar to MMA’s without the odor. Polyaspartics offer the flexibility, UV stability, and chemical resistance of urethanes with high film builds. This technology may be used in many similar applications that 100% solids epoxies have been used for in the past however they offer reduced downtime for owners, low odor, and beautiful long lasting finishes.
Be sure to attend the SSPC’s annual coatings conference and exhibit at the Henry Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas to learn all about polyurea coatings technology and get your AIA CEU credits.
SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings was founded in 1950 as the Steel Structures Painting Council, a non-profit professional society concerned with the use of coatings to protect industrial steel structures. In 1997, the name of the association was changed to The Society for Protective Coatings to better reflect the changing nature of coatings technology and the ever-expanding types of construction materials.
SSPC is the only non-profit association that is focused on the protection and preservation of concrete, steel and other industrial and marine structures and surfaces through the use of high-performance protective, marine and industrial coatings. SSPC is the leading source of information on surface preparation, coating selection, coating application, environmental regulations, and health and safety issues that affect the protective coatings industry.
SSPC’s core products and services include:
- Coatings industry standards
- Technical publications (books, videotapes, CDs)
- Training & certification courses
- Painting contractor certification programs
- Conferences and events
