Polyurea coatings are spray applied directly to properly prepared concrete, metal and geotextile substrates using special equipment and trained applicators. The use of geotextile fabrics as intermediate substrates for secondary containment in the oil and gas industry has exploded in this sector due to the ease and speed of installation and their re-usability. There have been literally thousands of polyurea secondary containment applications that have been successfully completed by spray applying the polyurea in the field at the jobsite.
However, recent polyurea products and process improvements are now making this process faster with even higher quality and performance results. The process involves pre-spraying the polyurea liners off-site with robotically controlled equipment. This process of pre-spraying the liners is rapidly gaining popularity with both facility owners and the installing contractors, since it greatly reduces or eliminates any jobsite and environmental challenges such as wind and weather that can slow or even stop production and installation. Using robotics to spray the liners also assures uniform thickness throughout the liner.
