Coating Extraction Tests
SAMPLE DESCRIPTION:
The Client submitted a cured black polyurea coating identified as FSS 45DC™.
REQUEST:
Determine compliance of the coating to 21CFR 175.300 for contact with nonacid aqueous food products, under high temperature heat-sterilized use conditions.
METHOD:
The sample was subjected to the extraction test outlined in 21CFR 175.300(e) Table 2, Condition A. A known surface area of the sample was extracted with distilled water at 250°F in a closed pressure vessel. The extract was evaporated to dryness in a tared dish. Weight per area was calculated from the data. This test was conducted in duplicate.
RESULTS:

CONCLUSION:
The sample complies with CFR 175.300 for use as a coating in contact with Type I Foods (nonacid, aqueous) under Condition A (high temperature heat-sterilized), and less severe conditions (e.g., room temperature storage) for repeated use non-container applications.
