Innovative polyurea secondary containment liner solves EPA mandate for spill control
Oil & Gas Producers Rely on VersaFlex® Pure Polyurea Seamless Liners for Spill Prevention and Control
VersaFlex is proud to announce the FlexTain™ pre-manufactured 100% pure polyurea and geotextile composite liner. FlexTain™ liners are produced in a special quality controlled factory environment using state-of-the-art equipment and robotic spray control to assure uniform thickness and perfect physical properties. FlexTain™ liners come in 15 ft. x 40 ft. rolls and are available in either 60 mil or 80 mil thicknesses for a total of 600 sq.ft.
Modern secondary containment systems for tank batteries, pipelines and railcar loading areas have long turned to spray applied pure polyurea coatings and linings. Pure polyurea coatings from VersaFlex Incorporated are spray applied directly to properly prepared concrete, metal and geotextile substrates using special equipment and trained applicators. For years this process has been a labor intensive field installed application.
Many drill sites, tank batteries, AST’s have traditionally used earth and berm containment designs. The designs still allow contained liquids to leach into the environment and off wash out in severe weather. With the EPA and SPCC guidelines cracking down on compliance, operators and oil field services contractors are discovering the advantages of using pure polyurea coatings spray applied over geotextile fabrics on site in the facility. Polyurea sets-up and cures very fast and a 10,000 sq ft containment area can usually be completed in 1-2 days.
Polyurea coatings are spray applied directly to the geotextile substrates using special equipment and trained applicators. The spray application of specially formulated VF 380 pure polyurea creates a monolithic and seamless membrane throughout the entire containment area.
The resulting polyurea geotextile composite membranes is waterproof, chemical resistant, durable, flexible and reusable.
The use of geotextile fabrics as intermediate substrates for secondary containment in the oil and gas industry has exploded in this sector due to the ease and speed of installation and their re-usability. There have been literally thousands of polyurea secondary containment applications that have been successfully completed by spray applying the polyurea in the field at the jobsite. VersaFlex is the market leader with over 20,000,000 sq ft of polyurea installed for secondary containment and spill prevention applications alone.
FlexTain™ Pre-Manufactured Polyurea Liners
Recent process improvements are now making containment liner application faster with higher quality performance results. The process involves pre-spraying the polyurea liners in a quality- controlled factory environment using robotically driven spray equipment. Pre-spraying the polyurea liners greatly reduces or eliminates any jobsite and environmental challenges, such as wind and weather that can slow or even stop production and installation. Using robotics to spray the liners also assures uniform thickness throughout the liner.
FlexTain™ Liner Advantages:
- Faster Installation
- Decreased Spray Equipment Investment
- Uniform Thickness Throughout Entire Liner
- ISO-9001:2001 QC Certified Manufacturing
- Greatly Reduced Overspray Risks
- Can be installed over moist ground
VF–380™ Pure Polyurea
VersaFlex® Inc, is the world’s leading supplier of specially designed 100% pure polyureas. The FlexTain™ liners are produced with a proprietary geotextile fabric and VersaFlex’s VF-380 polyurea specifically designed for secondary containment applications. The VF-380 has an extremely low shrinkage (<0.5%) rate and very high elongation properties. One of the most critical advantages the VersaFlex® VF-380 polyurea has is its exceptionally long recoat window. In containment application work, one of the challenges with standard polyurea spray elastomer systems relates to overcoating / joining existing material and achieving adhesion after the applied material has exceeded the typical 24-hour recoat window. The VF-380 liner system is the ONLY non add-on system designed to “Bond Back to Itself” without this traditional required preparation procedure.
The same polyurea material used to produce the FlexTain™ liner is also used to “glue” or fuse the panels together. Since it is the same exact material, the individual liner pieces now become one single monolithic waterproof membrane that is extremely durable, flexible and chemical resistant.
The VF-380 pure polyurea and geotextile liner is then bonded to the steel containment walls using the same materials, equipment and process to finish the containment system and create an entire monolithic waterproof membrane.
