Concrete Roof Deck: FSS 45DC Pure Polyurea
MARKET: Waterproofing : Roof Deck
SYSTEM: FSS 45DC Elastomeric Spray Polyurea
PROJECT: Concrete Substrate Roof Deck Waterproofing
OWNER: Publicly Traded Company, Morgantown, Virginia
CONTRACTOR: GE Specialty Chemicals / Fluor Daniels
This new concrete roof deck, located in Morgantown, West Virginia, required an elastomeric coating that could be installed at temperatures below freezing. The coating needed to cure rapidly, serve as a waterproofing roof membrane that would withstand moderate foot traffic and resist exposure to brine, ethylene glycol, kerosene, lubricating oils, methyl alcohol, and 5% to 25% phenol.
Because of the short amount of time allowed by the Owner and G.C. To install the coating, as well as the time of year the roof coating was to be installed, conventional coatings and roofing membranes were rejected.
VersaFlex was contacted by both G.E. Specialty Chemicals and Fluor Daniel. A specification was forwarded to VersaFlex at its Kansas City office. A project installation specification was developed for the project and approved by the Owner and G.C. FSS 45DC easily exceeded the requirements for the job and a notice to proceed was issued.
Beginning on November 15, 1996 the roofing system was installed over a two day period at an average film thickness of 55 mils. The average temperature during installation was 22° F with intermittent snow and sleet.
