There were two major problems at the Good Shepherd Church prior to the 2010 installation of a new roof coating system. One of the problems was a leaking concrete roof deck, and the other was the heat in the tropical weather, which made the interior unbearably hot during the afternoons.
First, the crack lines were filled with VersaFlex SL/45 joint filler. On the concrete roof where heat insulation is not required, VersaFlex FSS 50DM was spray applied to the concrete substrate which had been primed using VF30.
On the roof where insulation from the tripical heat was a necessity, FSS 50DM was sprayed directly over polyurethane foam. The foam provides the heat insulation, while the FSS 50DM acts as the waterproofing coating to prevent water or moisture damage to the foam substrate.
This job was expecially challenging as it rained frequently. However, VersaFlex’s pure polyurea curing is not affected by rain, and the project was completed within the specified time.
